There are several sources of free help for filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The U.S. Department of Education funds the Federal Student Aid Information Center (FSAIC), which provides a toll-free hotline to answer questions about federal student aid and the FAFSA. Call 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243). If you are hearing impaired, the TTY number is 1-800-730-8913.
You can also send questions by email to FederalStudentAidCustomerService@ed.gov. But, don’t send personal information by email, because email is not secure.
Many states offer College Goal Sunday programs, where you can get free one-on-one help from a financial aid professional. You can find links to the state programs using the tool at the bottom of the More Resources section of the FormYourFuture.org web site. This web site is sponsored by the National College Attainment Network (NCAN), previously known as the National College Access Network.
Ask your school counselor or the financial aid administrator at a local college for help.
Savingforcollege.com publishes a complete guide to filing the FAFSA, including a FAQ.
